Subscriber Custom Fields
Custom fields can be added to lists to store additional subscriber details such as the person's home or work address, or maybe their gender or date of birth. The custom field data you collect can then be used to personalize content and plan more targeted campaigns.
Every time you create a subscriber list, we create some basic fields for the list like name, address, email address and mobile. You can choose to hide these fields if you like. Any extra fields added to a list are called custom fields. You can add up to 50 custom fields per list.
Create Custom Field
To add a new custom field to a list:
- Click Lists & Subscribers under Smart Capture navigation, then select the relevant subscriber list.
- Select the relevant client from the breadcrumbs navigation link, if you have multiple clients.
- Click Custom Fields in the left sidebar to open the "Manage Custom Fields" page.
- Click New Custom Field button.
- Enter a name for the field and use the Data Type dropdown menu to select the type of field you want.
- Click Save.
You will see it has been added to the section below. Each field has a personalization tag that can be used in your emails. There are also icons for each field, labeled "Visible" and "Required", which control fields used in the preference center.
Edit or Delete Custom Fields
You can't change the name or data type after a custom field has been created, but if you need to change visibility or requirement, click edit next to the custom field.
To delete a custom field, hover your mouse over the field row and click the trash can icon that displays on your right.
Using Custom Fields
Custom field data allows you to personalize individual campaigns and specifically target content to suit your reader's preferences and interests. You can use custom fields to:
- Personalize campaigns — All subscriber fields have a personalization tag that can be used in your email content, as well as in subject lines.
- Segment your audience — You can use custom fields to group subscribers with similar interests or attributes, making it easier to plan more targeted campaigns.
