Smart Transactional Emails

Table of Contents

With smart transactional emails you can use our email template builder to design beautiful, on brand, responsive emails. You can even use existing email templates created for your marketing campaigns and tweak them to suit.

Like other emails sent with DreamCampaigns, smart transactional emails are hosted on our servers. This means you don't need to store the email or images yourself, potentially removing the need to deploy your website or application every time you want to update your emails.

Smart transactional email is triggered by our API, supports Content Tags using Twig templates for personalization.

Before you can create a Smart Transactional Email, you'll need to create the email template that you would like to use. When you're creating the email template make sure to select Transactional Template option so that you can use it here.

Create a Smart Transactional Email

The first step in creating a smart transactional email is to set it up in our app:

  1. Click Transactional under Smart Send navigation.
  2. Click New Transactional button and select email as transactional type.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your email. The name you choose for your email will be used later for reporting.
  4. Select Dynamic Content if you would like to provide the email content.
  5. If you have subscriber lists in your account, you can select the List that you would like to add the recipients to.
  6. You can use Content Tags in your subject line and preheader fields.
  7. Select an email template from the email template dropdown to be used for this transactional email.
  8. Click Save.

Add Recipients to a Subscriber List

When creating a smart transactional email, you can optionally add the transactional recipients to a subscriber list in your account. To comply with permissions-based email marketing, there are only two situations where doing this is acceptable:

  • The recipient has explicitly expressed permission to be sent promotional emails by opting-in at the time of triggering the transactional email.
  • The recipient has just completed a purchase from your website or application.

Set up a trigger to send

With your transactional email designed and ready to send, the next thing you'll need to do is start using the transactional email in your app. If you're not the person adding email triggers to your application or website, this is where they take over. Please refer to our API docs for more instructions on how to start using your new transactional email.
