Getting started with Site Messages
What are Targeted Site Messages?
Targeted Site Messages are lightweight notifications that appear on your website. Targeted Site Messages can be displayed to your contacts, a segment of your contacts or to anonymous visitors so that you can turn them into customers.
You may customize where Targeted Site Messages appear, they can be displayed at any position of your website.
Personalization tags are available to be used inside a Targeted Site Message so that you can refer to a contact by their first name for example. You will have access to personalization information like date, geographic information, regular contact fields, and Revenue data.
Creating a Targeted Site Message
To create a Targeted Site Message:
- Click Targeted Site Messages under Smart Send navigation.
- Click New Targeted Site Message button.
- Enter a name for your Targeted Site Message and click Add.
- On the next page, select a list from the dropdown to add any subscribers to.
When to Show
In this section you can choose to display the message for a period of times by selecting a Start Date/End Date. Enter a delay that would take for the message to popup. Select a Display Frequency, which would control how often you would like to display the message to the same visitor.
You can use the Targeted Site Message as a Leave Intent, by turning the Leave Intent on. Leave Intent is an intelligent technology designed to help you turn and transform any abandoning website visitors into paying customers. Once activated any time a visitor tries to leave your website the message you created will be displayed.
When you have finished this section, click Next.
Designing the Message
In this section you'll be using the drag & drop message builder to create the message you like to display. There are lots of tools at your disposal to create beautiful responsive messages that would attract any visitor. Once you have designed your message click Next.
Customize Behavior
In this section you'll be able to customize the behavior of the message. Select the position of the message on your website, what effect should the message have when it displays and when it disappearing. You can click preview button to see how the message is displayed so that you can make any adjustments.
Traffic Segment
In the next section you'll be controlling to whom the message should be shown. You can use any of the custom fields, device information, geographical location and more to create rules. You can narrow down every message to be targeted to the audience you like to market to.
Sending a Targeted Site Message
Targeted Site Messages are controlled by our SDK. Once you have activated and saved the message they start showing automatically based on the settings you have created them with. Make sure to follow the Targeted Site Message Implementation step to add the SDK code to your website. Once the SDK has been added your website, you don't have to adjust anything on your website for any new message you create in future.
