Enable Email Authentication
If you're sending email using your own domain name, email authentication is vital. Think of it like a digital signature for your domain, put in place to protect your brand, identity, content, and reputation. It makes it harder for people to fake that they're sending emails from you or your brand, and more likely that your legitimate emails will reach your subscribers' inboxes.
Email Authentication helps Internet Service Providers (ISPs) identify your email as being legitimate and not from a scammer, spoofer, or phisher. Having a good domain-based email sender reputation is an important best practice, and while all mail from DreamCampaigns is already DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) signed and will pass a Sender Policy Framework (SPF) check, turning on DreamCampaigns Authentication allows you to personalize the domain with which we sign your mail. This makes your emails more recognizable to your recipients, so that you can build trust in regards to your good emailing practices. Over time, with good sending practices, your delivery rates will improve.
When you use your own custom domain, we use your domain to sign your emails. Since your emails are authenticated under your own domain, you're building your sending reputation under your own domain instead of under DreamCampaigns. This is only possible if you have control over your own domain and are able to update your DNS records, which is also a requirement for publishing a DMARC policy.
In order to use your own domain, you must:
- Have access to the domain hosting provider.
- Use a web hosting provider that supports authentication record publication.
- Have a valid email address within the domain to use as the "From Address."
Add Your Domain
To add your domain:
- Click your profile image at the top right, then select Account Settings.
- Click Sending Domains in the left sidebar.
- Click New Sending Domain button.
- In the popup, enter your domain and click Add to save your domain.
Publish SPF & DKIM Records
Once you saved your domain, you need to add some records to your domain through your domain hosting DNS zone to authenticate the domain with DreamCampaigns. You'll need to add records for SPF (Sender Policy Framework) and DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) for your domain.
Select Instructions from the action drop down for the domain you just created. The popup that opens will show you the 2 records and values needed to be added to your domain records. There will be a TXT record for SPF and a CNAME for DKIM with their values displayed for you to add them to your domain zone.
Once you published the DNS records, you can select Verify from the action drop down for the domain to see if everything was set correctly and DreamCampaigns can verify the existence of the records on your domain. Please note that depending on TTL set on your domain, it may take anywhere from a couple of hours to a couple of days for the newly published records to propagate through the internet.
When all the records have been verified, your domain will be ready to be used as from address in your emails.
Every DNS interface should have the ability to create a TXT & CNAME records, but each DNS admin console is different. If you're having trouble locating your domain zone, please reach out to the support for your hosting provider. For example, the Host Name/Record should be input as “ezsendmailer._domainkey” instead of "ezsendmailer._domainkey.maxinvest.com".
